A host of engines
For starters, the Ford F-150 offers more powertrains. In addition to a hybrid engine, the F-150 can be equipped with a naturally aspirated V8 or V6, turbocharged and turbo diesel. The Ram 1500 offers two V6 and V8 gasoline hybrids or turbodiesels. A comparison of these competitors' hybrid engines shows that Ford is more powerful, faster and more efficient with its twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 and an electric motor for a combined 400 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 1500's 395-horsepower V8 is a few miles back.
Not to mention that the F-150 is now available in a 100% electric version called the Ford Lightning!
Both trucks are certainly fun to drive, but the F-150 has a leaf-spring configuration that makes it more flexible, and its steering is more stable on the highway and agile in parking lots. It also gives a greater sense of visibility with its scalloped front doors. The Ford also takes the lead over the Ram by offering over 1,000 lbs of towing capacity with its V8 engine and a four-door, short bed, 4X4 configuration. Its capacity can increase to 14,000 lbs with its turbo V6.
Impressive technology
Another interesting aspect that makes the difference in choosing a truck is the finish. Both the Ford F-150 and the Dodge Ram 1500 are luxurious and comfortable. However, Ford has greater availability of features and more impressive technology with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a host of sophisticated driving aids, including hands-free driving. It may lack a little storage, but it doesn't lack space: the heated, ventilated and massaging front seats can fold almost flat and it has an optional fold-down panel for the center console that creates a tray for a laptop or breakfast table.
It's the many little perks and their availability that make the 2023 Ford F-150 an excellent choice of truck as it perfectly fits the needs of its future owner.
